Sunrise

A couple of mornings ago I was up in time to watch the sun come up and was so amazed what a beautiful view we have. It was unexpected, I saw the Moon too- hard to get on my camera plus it wasn't full, but will be so nice to see it on clear nights. So happy we have a nice expanse of sky out our window!

The last few days..

Looked through Jill Zarin's Fabric store for ideas for things..

First big snowy night at the new place..


Parking lot of the bank was still covered but this gang of snowplow people lined up for a chat then went about clearing the streets.


My local hardware store where I got my sanders and stain also sells chandeliers! :)


The shelter sale furniture getting some spiffing up. Already looking nicer from where they started! When Rick and the truck guy brought it in a lil' older man stopped him and asked if it was his. When Rick said yes he looked surprised and told him those were some nice solid pieces! I guess he thought the long haired guy would be bringing in some plastic modern stuff? :) I love big solid older furniture.

Snow delay

Outside the current "old" place.
No delay? No.. Snow delay...
No fridge and stove, or furniture from the shelter sale until the end of the week! Nature decided to frost the city. Schools were closed a day in advance... still coming down. Good thing I like snow! Wonder what the trees outside the balcony look like? It's a 25min walk from here to there in good weather...
EDIT Snow delay no delivery from PC Richards this week, Monday is a "holiday".. so we might see a stove and fridge arrive on Tuesday!! ugh well it's all worth it. One day it will all be settled in and this just a fond past-post on a blog memory :)

For now..

We have a lot of stuff still to do until we get actually moved in so for now..

Living room dining room workspace.. I always hurry back to the pets though since they are not moved yet and won't be for awhile. I feel bad when they are back in the old place but can't bring them over yet.. Soon-ish!

First family visit!

One of many more to come :) Rick's mom, pop, gorgeous sis and gramma... Amazement was expressed that you can actually walk about in this place without bumping into anything :) A toast and many smiles were had!

First take-out dinner

Last night, impromptu by the window with a glass of riesling :)

Everything is a first!

First shower, yes I took a shower over there... nice to not have the tub be in the kitchen anymore :) Yes our EV place is one of those tub-in-kitchen places and believe me its "vintage charm" has worn off.

First realization that you can TOTALLY SEE EVERYTHING out this little window at night even though its wubbulous and frosted. I don't know how some people do the non-curtain thing. I am a curtains person. I happened to look out my window into the recessed area afterward above the bldg entrance and there was someone across the way showering. You didn't have to figure it out or wonder what he was doing. There was also a guy a bit lower jumping on his couch. Yes I am a curtains person.

Oh and..

Keeping the bathroom black and white (and gray) to make it feel open and light, I am also going to do B&W art on the walls. I loved this shower curtain because it looked like a kid drew all over it. I may be adding to it :)

New home new bedding!!!! Isn't that a rule somewhere?

Saying goodbye

We met for the first time today the seller's daughters who are of the generation of Rick's mom. This is an original apt and they grew up here. It was where they went from girls to adults and one of the ladies was in tears saying goodbye to the space. They also left us their grandmother's chairs (and also the glass topped table) which I had asked about and originally back at the start it was "no" but today they said since we did want to use them and restore them they would give them to us. I think they knew we would make their childhood home a "home" too so they weren't too sad. I think it was memories-gone-by tears and I hope for them they were mainly happy ones :)

Henry Street Settlement

The Henry Street Settlement an amazing place to help families and children get care and help to build their lives- wonderful arts and theater programs too. Princess Diana visited here and since she is one of the few world figures to give a darn about EB research too I will always be thankful to her and sad she left too soon.

More around-the-hood pix

The entrance to the pedestrian and bike path over the Williamsburg Bridge to Brooklyn. Your biggest risks here are being plowed down by girls in flipflops riding vintage schwinns with baskets in front (sometimes with a wee dog inside) and getting passed by moms walking their babies in strollers on this part going over where it feels like a huge uphill struggle if you haven't ridden a bike in a while.. the wind IS really strong! Those flipflop girls aren't human!!

The Kitchen and Bathroom

Cooking (and not burning) tasty foods is the plan in here :)
The kitchen chairs and table are staying since we needed a set anyway and the chairs are a gorgeous black metal and the table is actually very nice under that cloth :)

Hot Tub Party!! Well I could put hot water in the tub and then eat cake while soaking in it.. hey that's a party! :)

The Park between Buildings

This is the internal park between the neighboring building and ours. Its all kinds of trees and cute kid playground stuff :) Ahh yes the urban wasteland that is the Lower East Side sheer hell!! :)

I will be fixing these up!

I am not a pro re-finisher and I also like a distressed crossed the prairie in the back of a Conestoga Wagon look... they will be spiffed up though. They cost hardly anything seriously at a sale by a family shelter in the EV. They used to run a cafe and are now selling old things they have in storage. I love big old looking pieces and I'm not a sleek modern type (nothing wrong with that tho! :) ) I am never going to be space-age :)

Also getting these reupholstered! They are so pretty!!
